Description:

Ancient Seas, Middle Miocene to end of Pliocene eras, ca. 28 to 2.6 million years ago. This is a fossilized tooth from a prehistoric megalodon shark - the largest shark or fish to ever exist! The tooth exhibits the natural luster, and the warm beige and sienna root coloration is a result of the fossilization process - the chemicals and minerals in the water and sediment determine the hues. The matte root has a strong cleft and the enamel comes to a pointed tip - nearly a perfect V shaped profile. Megalodons had approximately 276 teeth in their mouth at any given time and scientists believe their jaws had the extreme power able to exert 108,500 to 182,200 newtons (24,400 to 41,000 lbf) - enough bite force to crush a car! Terrifying though this might be, this tooth is a pleasantly tactile and fascinating reminder of these ancient sharks! Size: 4.87" L x 3.37" W (12.4 cm x 8.6 cm)
