Description:

Ancient Seas, Middle Miocene to end of Pliocene eras, ca. 28 to 1.5 million years ago. A massive megalodon tooth with a dark grey root and a lighter enamel with yellow striations that formed with the fossilization process. The enamel is smooth and pleasantly tactile, and the edges have tiny serrations for tearing up prey, when this prehistoric shark hunted the seas. Three barnacles grew up on the root after this tooth came to rest at the bottom of the ocean. The teeth of the Megalodon are all that remain of these ancient animals whose skeletal structures - like those of all sharks - were made of cartilage and therefore did not fossilize. Size: 5.25" L x 4" W (13.3 cm x 10.2 cm); 5" H (12.7 cm) on included custom stand.
