Description:

North America, Alaska, Pleistocene (Ice Age), ca. 200,000 to 10,000 years ago. A fossilized ivory fragment from the proximal end of a prehistoric woolly mammoth tusk! The wide interior is hollow and tapers in the anterior direction, forming the pulp cavity. The pulp cavity once contained the connective tissue and blood vessels - just like a normal tooth - after all- tusks are just elongated incisor teeth! The surface has developed a dark brown hue from the minerals and chemicals in the sediment and water where this tusk rested and fossilized. Size: 8" L x 3" W (20.3 cm x 7.6 cm)
