Description:

Northeast China, Lingyuan, Liaoning Province, Late Jurassic, 140 million years old. A handsomely framed Sinohydrosaurus lingyuanensis (also Hyphalosaurus lingyuanensis) fossil from the Jixian formation. This species is among the more recently discovered types. A marine lizard from the dinosaur fossil beds of Liaoning Province in the Peoples Republic of China, this species had its roots in a land-dwelling progenitor. The Sinohydrosaurus resembles the larger Keichousaurus which preceded it by 100 million years. Size: 5.25" W x 4" H (13.3 cm x 10.2 cm); 13.125" W x 12.125" H (33.3 cm x 30.8 cm) framed

A label on the verso notes, "This dinosaur looks like a Nothosaur, but after detailed observation it shows great differences from the Nothosaur, mainly in osteological structure, preserved environment and geological time as well. This reptile has no clavicles, but has T-shaped interclavicle. It dived in fresh water in the area volcano of Late Jurassic. Based on the osteological structure, this reptile from Lingyuan should belong to Lepidosaurs. It's similar to lizard except its long neck. In the neck, there are 18 vertebra. Therefore it presents a new genus and new species …"

This fossil has been examined under a high-powered microscope. We can say with confidence that these are indeed bones, and this is not a reproduction.

  • Condition: Framing is of museum quality, tastefully executed with multiple mats and identification plaque under glass. There is also an informative label on the verso. While the fossil and its matrix has not been examined outside the frame, it appears that it has been repaired from about 3 large pieces with slight loss to break lines and peripheries and some areas of restoration.
