Description:

South America, Brazil, Cretaceous period, ca. 125 million years old. A fine split stone matrix revealing a fossilized fish imbedded inside the slabs and mounted in a modern wood and glass display frame. When excavated, the matrix is separated along the natural grain and the fossil inside was nearly perfectly divided down the center, with the remains sticking to both sides of the slab - while sometimes one half is just an impression, here the material of the fossils is partially imbedded in both halves! The bones and even some of the soft tissue of this fish is well preserved- the textured scales and fins have developed shimmering flecks of silica or quartz! Size (fossil matrix): 11" L x 6.5" W (27.9 cm x 16.5 cm); (frame): 19.25" L x 20.75" H (48.9 cm x 52.7 cm)
