Description:

North America, Western United States, Morrison Formation, Late Jurassic Period, ca. 152 to 145 million years ago. This is an incredible pair of fossilized bones from a massive Apatosaurus, an herbivorous dinosaur! These dinosaurs were long necked reaching lengths of 6 to 75 feet (21 to 22.8 meters), similar to Brontosaurus and Brachiosaurus, all sauropods characterized by long tails, long necks, and four thick legs. These two discs like bones are part of Apatosaurus's front pectoral chest area known as the coracoid that connects the sternum to the shoulder joints. The bones are slightly convex, fossilizing into a dark gray and brown stone. The exact orientation of this pair of bones is debated but are thought to be cranioventrally positioned to the rib cage at the end of the scapula. Size: 13" L x 2" W x 19.5" H (33 cm x 5.1 cm x 49.5 cm); 23.75" H (60.3 cm) on included custom stand.
