Description:

Roman, Imperial period, ca. 2nd century CE. A group of five beautiful silvered bronze spoons, with zoomorphic decorations and, in one case, a twisted handle. These spoons are known as cochlearium. The bowls are shaped like rounded flasks in cross section, and the handles have spikes most likely to use in extracting snails or seafood from their shells. Beautiful pieces of craftsmanship on everyday items. Size of largest: 7.3" L (18.5 cm)
