Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan, ca. 500 to 100 BCE; Nayarit, Chinesco type, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE; Gulf Coast of Mexico, Veracruz, ca. 3rd to 7th century CE; Colombia, Tairona, ca. 1000 to 1550 CE. A set of 5 ancient pottery artifacts. First is a petite Michoacan figural whistle jar and a painted Chinesco figural jar from West Mexico. Next is a large Veracruz portrait vessel with broad ears, and last are 2 Tairona musical instruments - a standalone whistle and an ocarina. Size of largest (Veracruz vessel): 3.5" L x 4.3" W x 3.25" H (8.9 cm x 10.9 cm x 8.3 cm)

  • Condition: Michoacan and Tairona whistles still create noise, and Tairona ocarina no longer functions. All pieces with abrasions, fading to pigment, and softening to finer details commensurate with age, with light earthen deposits, otherwise intact and very good. Great preservation to overall forms.
