Five antique French engravings of Egyptian artifacts from "Description de 'Egypte, ou Recueil des observations et des recherches qui ont ete faites en Egypte pendant l'expedition de l'armee francaise (Description of Egypt, or the collection of observations and researches which were made in Egypt during the expedition of the French Army), 1809-1829. Publisher: French government - Author: Commission des sciences et arts d'Egypte. This series of publications aimed to present a comprehensive catalogue of the monuments of ancient and modern Egypt. More than 160 scholars and scientists - referred to as "the savants" - accompanied Napoleon's expedition to Egypt from 1798 to 1801 in addition to approximately 2,000 artists, among them 400 engravers. The ensemble includes 3 engravings from Volume 3 "Thebes, Karnak": Plate 47 "Decoration Interieure De La Porte De Granit Des Propylees" and "Subets Recuillis Dans Divers Edifices"; Plate 53 "Coupe, Detail Et Bas-Reliefs Interieurs De La Porte Du Sud"; and Plate 65 "Collection De Vases Recueillis Dans Divers Edifices" - as well as - 2 engravings from Volume V "Collection D'Antiques": Plate 78 "Lampe Et Figure En Bronze - Figures En Pierre Calcaire - En Terre Cuite - En Cuivre" and Plate 65 "Figures En Bronze - Figure En Basalte - Figure En Terre Cuite Emaillee".
