Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 1100 to 1400 CE. An elegant loom stick carved from hard wood. The stick has a slender body with thin edges, a rounded point, and an integral finial comprised of a circle-adorned crest arching between the brows of two abstract anthropomorphic masks. The obverse side of the body is decorated with a low relief zoomorphic motif of five abstract avian figures standing on the serpentine curves of a giant snake. Covered in a deep brown patina, this is a fine example of Chimu craftsmanship! Custom wooden display stand included. Size: 1.3" W x 13.125" H (3.3 cm x 33.3 cm); 14.1" H (35.8 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
