Description:

First Nations / Native American, Canadian Arctic, Inuit, ca. 1965 CE. An adorable hand-carved soapstone seal perched on an integral plinth on his front flippers as he stretches his long neck and upper body forward with his tail resting behind him. The endearing animal pushes its slightly raised snout, skillfully rendered with clearly delineated nostrils and whiskers, outward, and looks down with its circular eyes delineated in relief, as though about to dive in for a fish. Boasting a silky smooth surface, the cute critter is naturally adorned in mottled hues of deep grey and charcoal with lovely white striations adding texture and a yellow tinted band midway down its body. A charming example from the Inuit culture. Size: 9" L x 2.5" W x 4.375" H (22.9 cm x 6.4 cm x 11.1 cm)
