Description:

Ancient Seas, Russia, Ordovician period, ca. 485.4 to 443.8 million years ago. A stunning trilobite fossil within a stone matrix, of the genus Paraceraurus aculeatus. The trilobite is beautifully preserved with the exoskeleton displaying the 11 segments of the thorax that clearly identifies the genus. At one end of the thorax is the head or cephalon; note the texture on the facets around the eye lobes! The long protrusions from the cephalon are not antennae, but in fact genal spines, that protect the underbelly when the trilobite rolls into a protective ball. A wonderful specimen that protrudes in high relief from the matrix. Size: 6" L x 0.75" W x 9" H (15.2 cm x 1.9 cm x 22.9 cm); case: 10.125" L x 7.125" W x 3.5" H (25.7 cm x 18.1 cm x 8.9 cm)
