Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Sican-Lambayeque, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. A dazzling dish formed from electrum to feature a flat, annular base, and straight walls that rise to a circular rim. The lustrous vessel is adorned with a repousse band of circles along its exterior walls. Sican elites were patrons of workshops that made fine objects made from precious metals like this example. Hammered silver or gold pieces were coveted by the Sican people and created for individuals of high status.
