Description:

Roman Empire, North Africa, ca. 2nd century CE. A molded terra sigillata flask presenting a fine portrait of a male youth, his tranquil visage comprised of sensitively modeled, realistic features including large, almond-shaped eyes with thick lids and generous lashes, arched brows, a naturalistic nose, closed full lips, and a rounded chin. His coiffure is intricately styled with centrally parted locks in the front and rows of braids above and behind his symmetrically placed ears. The vessel's tubular neck rises above the figure's head, and the youth's neck which is bedecked with two decorative necklace strands extends below to the flat base. Size: 4.75" W x 8.125" H (12.1 cm x 20.6 cm)
