Roman, Northern Africa, late Imperial Period, ca. late 3rd to early 5th century CE. A fabulous mold-formed redware pottery oil lamp resting atop a circular base decorated with interior concentric circles and a trio of raised ribs projecting from the exterior. The bulbous body has a tab-shaped handle on the verso, a circular shoulder, a recessed tondo with a small fill hole, and a lengthy wick spout with a grooved neck channel. The shoulder is decorated with a register of pattern-molded 'S' motifs filled with raised stippling, and the tondo boasts concentric circles and petaloid forms surrounding the ring-enclosed fill hole. Size: 3.4" W x 2.5" H (8.6 cm x 6.4 cm).
