Description:

Roman, North Africa, Tunisia, late Imperial Period, ca. 4th to 5th century CE. A large, mold-made redware pottery oil lamp with a raised ring base, rounded walls, an unperforated conical handle, semi-circular shoulders, twin fill holes, a wide neck channel, and a large wick spout. The shoulders display two delineated sections of intricate, alternating circular and square designs in low relief. The recessed tondo displays a finely-detailed zoomorphic depiction of a striding boar, with naturalistic hooves and tusk, perky ears, and gentle stippling representing the animal's coarse hair. A beautiful example from the Roman Empire! Size: 5.25" L (13.3 cm).
