Description:

Roman, early Imperial Period, ca. 1st to early 2nd century CE. A fine bottle formed from free-blown glass of a gorgeous teal hue. The vessel is defined by a piriform body with a rough pontil scar, a corseted neck line beneath a cylindrical neck, and a collared rim. The exquisite coloration of the vessel is incredibly pleasing to the eye and is elegantly presented with layers of brilliant silvery and rainbow-hued iridescence throughout the composition. An attractive example of fine Roman glass artistry! Size: 1.8" W x 3.625" H (4.6 cm x 9.2 cm).

#147841

  • Condition: Minor abrasions to base, body, and neck, with light encrustations, micro-bubbling within glass matrix, and light weathering film. Pontil mark on underside of base. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time. Nice earthen deposits as well as great silver and rainbow iridescence throughout.
