Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A finely-wrought, gilded bronze fibula in the crossbow style. The cast bronze has fine details, including graceful festoon-like bands bordering the shaft of the brooch. The top of the crossbow has a series of well-drilled perforations, giving it a delicate, openwork appearance. The termini of the cruciform element resemble faceted, nipple-like projections. Overall, this brooch is an example of excellent craftsmanship that has survived the years very well. Weight: 45.9 grams Size: 3.125" L x 2.25" W (7.9 cm x 5.7 cm)
