Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. An elegant, large, bronze "crossbow" fibula or brooch used to fasten a cloak of a Roman soldier and citizen. It is cruciform, with round bosses on the terminals at top and sides, and a flat tailpiece with two groups of four concentric circles incised. Those circles are commonly seen on Roman items, especially those from Roman Britain, and are believed to be wards against the evil eye. Size: 1.25" L x 2.05" W x 3.5" H (3.2 cm x 5.2 cm x 8.9 cm)
