Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A fine, cast-bronze censer ladle with a deep circular bowl which boasts a concentric circular base, a thin rim, and is supported by four columned, scroll-form feet. A lengthy bar-shaped handle with several incised rings and a bulb-shaped terminal projects tangentially off of one side from a square base secured to the cup with four small rivets. The body of the scoop also displays several thin horizontal mold-formed rings. The overall weight of the handle causes the censer to tilt, despite resting on four feet. Covered in fine areas of dark-brown, light-green, and dark-green patina, this is a beautiful example from the Roman Empire! Size: 7.2" L x 2.375" H (18.3 cm x 6 cm).
