Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A skillfully hand-built redware standing musician, donning elaborate adornments including headdress, ear and nose ornaments, holding a large conch shell ocarina to his mouth. Beyond this, he is extensively decorated with white painted multistrand beaded necklaces, armbands, and anklets, as well as black tattoos/body paint on his arms and back. A wonderful example of visual culture from the Nayarit with manganese deposits attesting to its age. Size: 4.5" W x 9.25" H (11.4 cm x 23.5 cm)
