Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, Chinesco style, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery female figure of an elegant form. She stands atop delineated legs and arched feet, holds her arms atop her abdomen, bears perky breasts on her chest, and has a corseted neck that supports her bulbous head. The enlarged head features a conical nose, protruding ears, and a broad forehead with a central vertical cleft. Chinesco figures are so-named because of how their features resemble those seen in Asian effigies. Layers of vermilion and cream-hued slip create a wondrous presentation for this lovely example! Size: 2.25" W x 5.1" H (5.7 cm x 13 cm); 5.4" H (13.7 cm) on included custom stand.
