Description:

Native American, Western United States, Plains Tribes, Western Lakota / Dakota or Cheyenne people ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A hide tipi bag (bison or another ungulate) covered in hundreds of glass seed beads and wool tassels set in tin cone danglers. Bags such as this were beautiful containers to transport the materials to construct a tipi tent, such as the pegs and guide lines, or other "possibles" (personal belongings), and once the tipi was pitched, the bags could be used to decorate the interior. Size: 12" L x 7.5" W (30.5 cm x 19 cm)

  • Condition: Cracking and wear to leather on top of flap and fraying to cords connected to tassels, and small perforations through hide on verso. Patina and oxidation on iron / tin tassel cones. Some discoloration and staining to yarn tassels and hide. Beading is intact and excellent.
