Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Mayan territories, Maya, Late Classic period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A finely-carved green and blue-green jade pendant resembling a head with facial features in relief. The countenance is comprised of a prominent ovoid nose, recessed eyes, arching brows, bar-shaped ears, puffy lips, and a planar brow line. The verso is roughly flat, and a biconical suspension hole is drilled laterally through the head. A wonderful example with vibrant natural coloration and skillful construction! Size: 0.875" W x 1.1" H (2.2 cm x 2.8 cm).
