Description:

Pre-Columbian, Maya Territories, probably Guatemala, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A fine jadeite pendant of a lord's visage, carved from a rich green and white color, with areas of intense apple-green, the signature hue of the Maya's favorite stone! The ruler stares forward portraying the classic stylized facial features formed via careful string-cut techniques, a headdress with large earspools, and an elaborate necklace of circular medallions. Drilled suspension holes horizontally through the entire length of stone oriented along the top edge enable this piece to be worn as a pendant. Even more remarkably, there are 4 minute holes at the lower edge showing other objects were hung off this stunning pendant. Size: 1.25" W x 1.375" H (3.2 cm x 3.5 cm)

This piece has been tested using our XRF gun and results confirm it is jadeite.
