Description:

Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. An intriguing cast-bronze sculpture of a bull standing on four delineated legs with a narrow body and a head with projecting horns that curve away from the snout. Below his perked ears are small cavities for eyes that were perhaps inlaid with a contrasting or vibrant stones at one time. Bulls were a recurring theme on the decorative and ritual arts from Luristan culture, most likely symbolizing the leader of the herd, that were known for strength and virility. Attractive green patina has developed on this example. Size: 2.875" L x 0.75" W x 2.375" H (7.3 cm x 1.9 cm x 6 cm)
