Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A wonderful hand-built terracotta seated male figure with bent arms and legs, stylized digits, a slightly-curved back, rounded shoulders with several applied adornments, and a flat posterior. His oversized head showcases characteristic Jalisco "sheepface" qualities such as pointed ears with circular earspools, coffee-bean-shaped eyes, a thin mouth, a bulbous nose with accompanying nose ring, and a tall, curved forehead with a thin, crested headband. The entire figure is enveloped in a smooth white slip, and additional embellishments to earspools, headband, and beaded necklace are painted atop in an deep-red hue. Size: 6.5" H (16.5 cm).

Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields, and Riverbend Gallery
