Description:

Pre-Columbian, west Mexico, Jalisco, Ameca Style, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. One of the nicest West Mexican figures I have seen, this is an elegant and lifelike sculpture of a man seated with one leg folded underneath his body, the other raised. His arms rest against his knees. He sits slightly hunched over, nude aside from a necklace, earrings, a nose ring, and a narrow band around his hair; he has visible genitalia and defined musculature on his chest. His face is painted white, with large ears, blank, staring, almond-shaped eyes, a strong nose, and the mouth slightly parted as if he is speaking. The head has a striking, elongated form, probably meant to depict ritual skull shaping. Size: 7.1" W x 8.75" H (18 cm x 22.2 cm)
