Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Huari (Wari) culture, ca. 500 to 1000 CE. A gorgeous shell ornament inlaid with shimmering and vibrant shards of stone and shell. The main body is probably a white conch shell. At the center is a copper disc, with light pink / purple spondylus shell, nacre, and blue turquoise and/or chrysocolla stones radiating from the center, like a sun or starburst. On the verso is a pierced hole for suspension - possibly worn as a pendant, earspool, or clothing adornment. Size: 1.75" Diameter x 0.3" W (4.4 cm x 0.8 cm); 3.75" H (9.5 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, acquired from 2000 to 2010
