Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Peru, Huari (Wari) culture, ca. 700 to 1000 CE. A lovely and lengthy tray that is perhaps carved from camelid bone for use in preparing hallucinogenic drugs. The slender body of the implement features a semicircular profile with a gently flared exterior lip as well as a hand-carved saurian creature projecting from atop the uppermost section. The abstract zoomorphic features a scaled body, zigzagging tendrils draped down from its orbitals and a raised arm beneath its mouth. A lateral perforation through the base of the tail enabled this implement to be suspended from a strap or perhaps even adorned with additional ornamentation. Size: 10.625" L x 1.4" W x 2.375" H (27 cm x 3.6 cm x 6 cm); 8.3" H (21.1 cm) on included custom stand.
