Description:

Ancient. Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. An evocative ceramic head, lifelike and possibly modeled from a real woman. Her head is tilted back and turned very slightly to the side, giving her a dynamic pose, as if caught in thought. She has a serious expression on her face, with her eyes open wide and her mouth closed. Her brows are clearly depicted with fine detail, and she wears either a headdress or an elaborate braid along her hairline. She may once have had a larger headdress piece that is since lost on the front. There are remains of original red pigment around her hairline, and at one time she would have been completely painted bright colors. Size: 2.1" W x 3" H (5.3 cm x 7.6 cm); 5.05" H (12.8 cm) on included custom stand.
