Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Loma Negra, Mochica/Moche, ca. 100 BCE - 100 CE. An exquisite pair of gold-gilded ear spools created by the Moche, rich with symbolic iconography. Each one features a scene depicting a Chasqui warrior adorned with magnificently delineated bird wings towering over his more diminutive royal attendant. All along the circumference of the ear spools is a spherical, bead-like repousse motif. Large circular ear ornaments such as these were popular personal adornments of prominent ancient Moche lords and a symbol of their status and wealth. Custom, museum-quality stand. Each measures approximately 3-1/4"D
