Description:

Roman, Gallo-Roman, Imperial Period, France, found in northern Gaul, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE. A finely-built, cast-bronze bowl with a planar base, near-vertical walls, and a projecting rim with two sets of twin perforations meant for supporting decorative handles on each rivet. Traces of tinning are visible around the vessel, with both pale- and verdant-green patina enveloping most surfaces. Simply beautiful! Size: 9.25" W x 2.25" H (23.5 cm x 5.7 cm).

Provenance: private Vero Beach, Florida, USA collection, acquired at the Drouot Auction House in Paris, France in the 1980s; ex-old French collection, as evidenced by the collection label on base
