Description:

Prehistoric, Ancient Seas, Miocene to Pliocene period, ca. 28 to 3.6 million years ago. A beautiful and finely preserved example of a megalodon tooth that has undergone the process of fossilization. Both the upper and lower enamel have developed a glossy luster that highlights its dark gray and beige hues, and fine striations have developed along the upper enamel. The root is coarse to the touch and has hardened into an almost stone-like consistency. Meaning "big tooth", the Megalodon was one of the most powerful predators to roam the earth, estimated to grow up to 59 feet long! Teeth are all that remain of these ancient creatures, whose skeletal structures - like those of all sharks - were made of cartilage and did not fossilize when they became extinct 3.6 million years ago. Size: 3.9" W x 5.125" H (9.9 cm x 13 cm); 5.25" H (13.3 cm) on included custom stand.
