Description:

Northern / Western Europe, Bronze Age, ca. 1200 to 700 BCE. A fine cast-bronze axe head of a sturdy construction with a thick, vertically-oriented blade, an open shoulder, and a tubular socketing shaft with a pair of horizontal rings, all covered in lustrous layers of green and brown patina. The area behind the shoulder is missing, suggesting a back and possibly a top portion were present at one time. Based on the overall size and thick blade head, this axe was likely used as a tool for cutting and shaping softer materials rather than in battle. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 3.25" L x 1.625" W x 2" H (8.3 cm x 4.1 cm x 5.1 cm); 4.625" H (11.7 cm) on included custom stand.
