Eastern Roman Empire, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A beautiful jar of a spherical form that is constructed with semi-translucent glass of a vibrant blue-green hue. The rounded body has several crimped protrusions around the surface, a cylindrical neck, and a flared rim with a smooth lip. Bottled like this example were used for holding scented oils and perfumes in a woman's toilette and were a visible sign of her wealth and status. Stunning layers of silvery and rainbow-hued iridescence have formed across the vessel and imbue it with an exquisite presentation. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only.
