Description:

Roman, late Republic/early Imperial period, ca. 1st century BCE to 1st century CE. A pretty and rare earthenware skyphos, mold-made, with a deep, rounded body and two delicate handles projecting from the mid-body and just below the rim. The narrow rim flares out above the body, which has molded relief motifs of round, shield-like bosses above a thick hanging garland on either side. The skyphos stands on a short, round foot. Similar vessels to this one are glazed with lead (see for example Metropolitan Museum of Art: 06.1021.193) and this one may at one time have been glazed too. Size: 6.25" L x 4" W x 2.7" H (15.9 cm x 10.2 cm x 6.9 cm)
