Description:

Latin America, Mexico, probably Michoacan State, ca. early 20th century CE. An early and finely detailed carved wood mask from the Guerrero region, representing a Moor or possibly El Viejo (old man) given his wrinkled forehead. Beyond this, his visage boasts wide open, generously lashed bright blue eyes (eye slits as well for the wearer), rosy cheeks, pink lips, and a thick mustache and beard. Wood has aged gracefully, yet the pigments are still vivid. Size: 4.75" deep x 7.5" W x 9.75" H (12.1 cm x 19 cm x 24.8 cm)
