Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Nicoya, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A lovely hemispherical pottery bowl decorated with a step-fret motif in umber hues upon the buff surface encircling the rim. The rest of the exterior is split into quadrants with petaloid shapes and stippled patterning. In the centuries leading up to the Spanish conquest, the Greater Nicoya region in Costa Rica witnessed the creation of various ceramic styles. These styles were heavily influenced, both in terms of their form and ornamentation, by the ceramic traditions found in the Maya region. Size: 6" Diameter x 2.5" H (15.2 cm x 6.4 cm)
