Description:

East Asia, China, 20th to 21st century CE. A beautiful and large piece of natural hetian (nephrite) jade carved into a pair of gourds, done in the Suzhou style. There are several loops formed by the leafy and vine details at the top and the pendant is strung on a cord as a wearable necklace. This type of gourd was common in Chinese cuisine, known as a towel gourd or luffa / loofah- the original bathroom loofa sponges were made from the dried fibers. One side is marked with black Chinese characters and a red stamp. This piece comes with a Chinese Jewelry and Jade Appraisal Certificate, see below for more information, and has been additionally tested to confirm jade content. Size: 2.5" L x 1.25" W (6.4 cm x 3.2 cm); cord doubled: 27" L (68.6 cm); weight: 68.51 grams
