Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chavin culture, ca. 900 to 200 BCE. A fabulous necklace composed of 23 cylindrical beads carved from vivid cornflower-blue sodalite with white and beige inclusions. Each bead is biconically-drilled through the center for suspension, with several larger beads resting in the middle of the composition. Sodalite is one of the primary elements of lapis lazuli mined from the Andes and has been cherished since antiquity. Capped with a 14K gold lobster clasp and loop combo, this is a wearable and wonderful example of ancient fashion meets modern style! Size (necklace): 21.5" L (54.6 cm); size (largest bead): 0.625" W x 1.375" L (1.6 cm x 3.5 cm).
