Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A hand-woven tunic or poncho shirt that is comprised of tightly woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers and painted with white, brown, and beige pigments to create the wondrous, abstract motifs. The fine line patterning consists of interlocking birds and triangular bodies with circular eyes. The garment is comprised of multiple panels woven separately then sewn together, shaping the sleeves and slit neck. The hems use an open weave technique of stepped triangles in brown and red hues, with short tassel ends. Size: 26" L x 43.5" W (66 cm x 110.5 cm)
