Description:

Ancient Central Asia, Bactrian, ca. 2500 to 2250 BCE. A gorgeous stamp of a circular form that is cast from bronze via the lost wax (cire perdue) technique. The discoid stamp bears a flat profile with an integral ring handle on the topside that is surrounded by a pair of long-horned ibexes looking behind their streamlined bodies as they are being chased by two large dogs. The exterior periphery features an openwork helical motif that surrounds the recessed outlines of the striding animals around a central ring. The forms of each animal are still visible on the bottom even today, and the entire stamp is enveloped in lustrous layers of green and brown patina. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 2.95" W x 0.75" H (7.5 cm x 1.9 cm)
