Description:

Near East, Bactrian culture, ca. 700 BCE to 100 CE. This is a ring that may have been a bracelet for someone with a small hand, or may have been used as a fastener or some other type of decoration. It has what appear to be human skulls carved on either end before the split. Ancient Bactria was located between the Hindu Kush mountain range and the Amu Darya River, covering the flat region that straddles modern-day Afghanistan and Tajikistan and the bronze industry had a local origin; rings such as this would have been cast using the lost wax technique. Size: 2.25" L x 2.25" W x .25" H (5.7 cm x 5.7 cm x 0.6 cm)

Provenance: Ex-private Southern California collection acquired in the 1990's.
