Ancient Near East, Middle East, Iranian Plateau, Elamite, ca. late 3rd to early 2nd millennium BCE. A lovely Elamite bronze axe head with a rounded, crescentic blade, a thick and narrow neck, a smooth and thin shaft hole, and an arched spine along the back. The surface displays attractive patina hues such as light green, dark green, turquoise, and brown. Axe heads like this would have been hafted with a single-ended pole and then tightly-wrapped with strands of either leather, thick textile, or reeds. Size: 5.125" L x 2.5" W (13 cm x 6.4 cm); 3.375" H (8.6 cm) on included custom stand.
