Description:

Central Asia, Nepal, ca. 18th to early 19th century CE. A lovely cast-brass bell with an ornate handle representing half of a dorje. The sloped shoulder of the bell is adorned with etched Nepalese characters above a program of horizontal dorjes, with petite images of various prayer instruments enclosed within draped banners on the midsection, and a register of vertical, densely-congregated dorjes around the lower periphery. The original clapper is still suspended within the bell cavity, and fine patina covers both bell and handle. Size (not including hanging clapper): 3.9" W x 6.35" H (9.9 cm x 16.1 cm)
