Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sukhothai or Ayutthaya Period, ca. 14th to 15th century CE. Large and wonderfully potted grayware jar. Short foot, bulbous midsection and flaring rim with 4 small pinched areas on the shoulder and impressed decorations on shoulder and neck. A lovely vessel! Archaeologists excavated unglazed stoneware jars with stamped decoration similar to this one from the kilns at Bang Pun village in Central Thailand. They have also been found in multiple shipwreck excavations, especially in the area of the South China Sea between China and the Philippines, suggesting that these were valuable trade items.
