Cambodia, Khmer, Angkor Period, ca. 11th century. Stunning Khmer Baphuon style sandstone head of Dvarapala. His face finely carved with thin squarish chin, full pursed lips, almond-shaped eyes and arched eyebrows; his hair arranged in neat rows rising to a domed topknot surmounted by a lotus finial. A large and quite striking example! Size: 8.5" W x 13" H (21.6 cm x 33 cm); 17" H (43.2 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-private San Diego, California, USA collection acquired in Cambodia in the 1970's
