Description:

Filomena de Andrade Booth (American, b. 1940s-50s). "Red Dawn" acrylic on canvas, 2003. Signed in lower right; name, date, and title inscribed on verso. A beautiful painting by American artist Filomena de Andrade Booth titled "Red Dawn" depicting an abstract landscape possibly of a sandy beach beneath a crimson red sky. A slanted black line travels from half-way down the left side to the lower right corner, perhaps representing a path with a black pole or figure at the upper left side. A flag or banner is also pictured in the foreground to the left. All is rendered in loose, liberal strokes, and accented with thinly scratched striation that add complementary lines of white to the vibrant palleted. Size: 23.75" W x 18" H (60.3 cm x 45.7 cm)

Biography from the artist's website: "As a contemporary artist working in acrylics, Filomena's paintings are inspired by the natural beauty around her on Florida's Nature Coast. Her goal is to capture the mood of the moment on canvas, whether in an entirely abstract painting or in an impressionistic interpretation of a natural scene. Her work reflects her love of color and the interplay of light and texture.

Filomena's original, contemporary paintings elicit emotional responses from viewers and are frequently described as "beautiful". Her paintings may, at times, be subtle and at other times bold and vibrant. Strong composition, visual texture, bold use of color and trusting her intuition are just some of the elements she employs as she explores the possibilities of the blank canvas.

Her journey as an artist began many years ago. After several years as a high school art teacher and several more years raising her 3 sons, she was finally able to devote herself to creating art. What initially began as a project to decorate her own home, quickly became a full-time business of supplying custom art to interior designers in the Tampa Bay area. In time, she 'discovered' the internet and began showing her work to the world. Her original paintings are found in private and corporate collections throughout the US and Europe."

Provenance: private Boulder, Colorado, USA collection, acquired from the 1970s - 2000s; ex-Tom Michel collection
