Description:

Southern Europe, Italy, Faliscan, ca. 325 to 300 BCE. A wheel-thrown pottery oinochoe of a refined form with an inverted piriform body, a bifurcated strap handle, and a 'beaked' pouring spout that projects from the top of the cylindrical neck. Coursing across the exterior surfaces are faint remains of black-painted linear motifs that include spiraling tendrils on the body as well as a register of narrow frets surrounding the neck base. Beaked oinochoai of this form were made by the Falisci people who lived north of the Tiber River and are an attractive combination of Etruscan and early Roman design elements! Size: 7" W x 15.1" H (17.8 cm x 38.4 cm)

Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, acquired before 2000
